Rebooting Life...

This post has been on the making for at least four years. The transition from food blogging as a hobby to food business owner happened in a very controlled way. I opened an online shop while still working my regular full-time paid job. The first 4 years were a lot of fun, full of learning and mistakes. Although we were aiming to be super professional, It felt like a 'nixer'. I still had a full back up by not giving up the day job.

Best Laid Plans...

Last week I was full of blogging plans, classes, a possible trip to London and organising an opening party for Picado. I was expecting my parents for a visit too. Today, I am sitting on my front room painfully typing a quick update for the blog. I had an accident... one of those silly ones that involved overheating oil, some experimenting with churros and a visit to A&E.

Changes...

For the last while, I've been thinking a lot about how to move forward with the blog. A lot has been going on in the last six months, but so much more is to come. I'm facing a change of situation at work, a busy summer ahead, some big, big changes in the shop and a very special project that might see me shifting direction a little in the next year. Trying to put a sort of plan or schedule on paper seemed impossible.

Upcoming Food Festivals...

The last few weeks have been manic. New thing in work and tons of work for the shop, which is in the process of getting a revamping, loads of social engagements and a few family things. May, June and July are full of great foodie festivals and my calendar is jam packed with stuff.

Getting the Difference...

I planned for this, the very first post of 2014, to be a lot different that what it turned out to be. I've been working on a recipe for four weeks and it is nearly ready to publish... yet something happened that distracted me from my culinary fine-tunings: I got an e-mail through the shop from a customer, there's nothing new there, I get plenty of them every week with queries about ingredient substitution, product availability, suggestions and plenty of thank yous.

New Year, New Food Resolutions

After the busy Christmas and New Year festivities, where indulgence in rich foods and loads of comfort eating is a given, January is always a time for what I call my food resolutions; they vary year to year, from detoxing, to only organic, to light and lean, or healthy. Regardless of what my food resolutions are for each year, I feel that the kitchen must be prepared, pruned and ready for the year to come; I like to think of my kitchen as a garden, alive and seasonal. You need to put the bulbs down now if you want beautiful daffodils blooming in the spring time, don't you?

Big News...

I thought long and hard about this posting... stared at the blank page for a long time. I've been wanting to tell you all for weeks about this, but I couldn't. I've been bursting with excitment for a month and I had to keep it under wraps. This was a real killer for me, but we had agreed to wait till it was all official and that was that! The last week was torture, but now that it's all done and official, I simply don't know how to go about to tell you! So, I'm going to spit it out plain and simple:

What Ireland Looks Like from a Plate...

As many of you who follow my and the twitter account know, the last three months of my life have been a roller-coaster: The day my parents got their tickets to visit me in Ireland, my mother fell suddenly ill in Mexico and for a while it looked like she wasn't going to make it; the days and weeks were filled with worry and anxiety, torn between wanting
